China will tighten oversight of its drive into advanced technology to curb investment bubbles and ensure artificial intelligence (AI) remains “safe, reliable and controllable”, according to policy guidelines issued by the ruling Communist Party and the cabinet. The measures come as Beijing steps up support for high-tech manufacturing and strategic industries to strengthen technological self-sufficiency amid competition with the United States. The guidelines warn against blind investment and excessive expansion in emerging sectors, emphasising the need to prioritise the real economy and promote high-quality development.
