Siemens Energy will manufacture key steam turbine components for the first three Rolls-Royce SMR small modular reactors planned for the Gwyndod Power Station project at Wylfa on Anglesey, North Wales. High-pressure turbines and valve casings will be produced at Siemens Energy’s historic CA Parsons Works facility in Newcastle, in a move described as an important step towards establishing a UK-led nuclear supply chain. The Newcastle site has played a role in the UK’s energy infrastructure since 1889 and previously manufactured the steam turbine for Calder Hall, the world’s first commercial nuclear power station.
