Trump unveils voluntary AI data centre power pledge

US President Donald Trump has announced a voluntary commitment by major power producers and data centre operators to fund or build the electricity infrastructure needed to support rapidly growing artificial intelligence demand. Speaking at an Environmental Protection Agency event attended by Republican governors, utility executives and data centre developers, Trump said the companies had agreed to finance the additional power infrastructure required by their operations and would be permitted to construct their own power plants. The initiative forms part of the administration's broader strategy to accelerate AI development and strengthen the United States' position in competition with China.
