The European Union is stepping up efforts to modernise its energy sector through digitalisation, with the European Commission promoting the development of safe, secure and sustainable digital energy services across the bloc. According to the Commission, digital technologies are increasingly influencing every stage of the energy value chain, from electricity generation and transmission to distribution, supply and consumption. The initiative forms part of the EU’s wider ambitions under the European Green Deal and its strategy to make Europe fit for the digital age.
