Spanish Regulator Expands Probe into Energy Firms over Major Blackout

Spain’s antitrust and energy watchdog has widened its investigation into last year’s major blackout, bringing additional power companies under scrutiny. The regulator, CNMC, said it has added firms including local units of TotalEnergies and Engie to the probe into the unprecedented outage that struck Spain and Portugal on 28 April 2025. The move expands earlier investigations targeting major players such as Red Eléctrica, Iberdrola, Naturgy, Endesa and Repsol together with individual power stations.
