Germany Moves Toward First Commercial Stellarator Fusion Power Plant

In a major step for commercial fusion energy in Europe, Munich-based start-up Proxima Fusion has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Free State of Bavaria, RWE, and the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics to build what could become the world’s first commercial stellarator fusion power plant. The agreement targets the former Gundremmingen nuclear power plant site in southern Germany, a location currently being decommissioned, as the future home of the planned facility.
