Type One Energy Launches Licensing Process for the First Fusion Power Plant in Tennessee

US fusion energy developer Type One Energy has taken a major step toward commercializing fusion power by submitting an initial licensing application for a planned fusion power plant at the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) retired Bull Run fossil plant site in Clinton, Tennessee. The application, filed with state regulators, seeks a byproduct material licence, marking what the company describes as a “first-of-a-kind” regulatory submission tailored to fusion technology. The licensing effort reflects extensive collaboration with TVA and the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation aimed at demonstrating compliance with safety and regulatory requirements for advanced fusion energy systems.
