Germany’s Planned Industrial Electricity Price Cap Expected to Cost Over €3 Billion

The German government’s plan to introduce a subsidized electricity price for energy-intensive industries is projected to cost more than €3 billion, according to a preliminary draft from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs. The document, first reported by Politico and Handelsblatt, estimates that between 2027 and 2029 the federal government would spend €3.1 billion to support selected industrial sectors. The measure, agreed by leaders of the SPD and CDU/CSU during coalition committee talks, aims to shield key industries from high energy prices and prevent companies from relocating production abroad.
