Stellantis Unveils Lighter, Faster-Charging EV Battery Prototype

Stellantis has unveiled a breakthrough in electric vehicle technology with its new IBIS (Intelligent Battery Integrated System), developed in partnership with Saft, a TotalEnergies subsidiary. The innovative design eliminates the need for separate inverters and chargers by integrating these functions directly into the battery through electronic control using 200 transistors. This integration delivers significant benefits, including a 15% reduction in charging time, 10% higher efficiency, a 40 kg weight reduction, and more available space inside the vehicle. The company says the system is also easier to service and more cost-effective, potentially lowering barriers among the public to EV adoption such as long charging times and high prices.
