Exxon Mobil might return to Sakhalin-1 project

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a new decree that could allow foreign investors, including Exxon Mobil, to regain stakes in the Sakhalin-1 oil and gas project, which Russia seized in October 2022. Exxon, which once held a 30% operator share, was the only foreign partner to fully exit, incurring a $4.6 billion loss after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
