The end of EU dependency on Russian energy

The European Union (EU) has announced plans to end its dependency on Russian energy by halting imports of Russian gas, oil, and nuclear energy, while ensuring stable energy supplies and prices across the Union. The REPowerEU Roadmap, presented by the European Commission, aims to achieve full energy independence from Russia. Despite progress made since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the EU saw a rebound in Russian gas imports in 2024, highlighting the need for more coordinated actions. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of cutting off energy ties with Russia to avoid supporting its aggression against Ukraine.
