Renewables produced less electricity in Germany in the first quarter of 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, electricity generation from renewable sources significantly decreased in Germany, according to preliminary calculations. The main reason for this decline was a weather-related drop in wind power, as reported by the German association BDEW. Offshore wind energy production fell by 31 percent, while onshore wind energy production decreased by 22 percent. Overall, 63.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity were generated from renewable sources from January to March, which is about 16 percent less than the same period last year.
