Beznau NPP in Switzerland to operate beyond 60 years

Swiss utility Axpo has announced plans to invest additional CHF 350 million (approximately 9.5 billion CZK) to extend the operation of its Beznau nuclear power plant until 2033. The plant, which houses the oldest reactors in Switzerland—Unit 1 started operation in 1969 and Unit 2 in 1972—currently produces approximately 6 TWh of electricity annually, sufficient to power 1.3 million households. The two 365 MWe Westinghouse pressurised water reactors also provide district heating.
