Putin says new oil and gas pipelines to China could run side by side

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia could supply China with both oil and gas via a common planned route through Mongolia. During his visit to China, Putin confirmed the interest of both countries in continuing planning the construction of the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline. Putin proposed to build a new oil pipeline in the same corridor as well. He also mentioned other options for supplying Russian energy to China, including the use of tankers sailing the Northern Sea Route through the Arctic. Despite Putin's upbeat comments, Russia and China have yet to reach an agreement on the construction of the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline.
