EU countries reinstate nuclear as strategic low-carbon technology

In March, the European Commission presented its proposal for a Net-Zero Industry Act, aiming to boost the technologies considered vital to reach climate neutrality by 2050. In the proposal, nuclear power was not initially labelled as “strategic”. This was rectified first by the European Parliament in November and by the European Council on 7 December despite opposition from Germany, Austria and Luxembourg.
