US government to invest $1.2 billion in carbon capture

The US government will spend up to $1.2 billion to help build giant machines in Texas and Louisiana that will capture carbon dioxide from the air. Each facility will be able to eliminate up to one million tons of carbon dioxide annually. CO2 will be removed from the air using chemical reactions. Carbon dioxide can then be stored underground or used for aviation fuel production.
