Eleventh Japanese nuclear reactor resumes operation

On 28 July, unit 1 of the Takahama nuclear power plant was restarted after more than 12 years. Kansai Electric Power Company plans to return the 780 MWe pressurised water reactor to commercial operation at the end of August. The unit entered a regular inspection outage in January 2011, two months before the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi plant. Kansai applied to the Japanese Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) to restart the two reactors at the power plant in March 2015.
