Germany strikes deal with EU on cars burning e-fuels

Representatives of the German government and the European Commission have agreed on a compromise modification of an earlier agreement banning the registration of new cars with combustion engines after 2035. The modification would allow for cars to be registered after that date, providing that any fuel they use is exclusively carbon neutral. For Germany, the agreement represents a great victory, because it will limit the impact of the new legislation on the country’s major car manufacturing sector.
