EU strikes deal to cut energy consumption by 2030

After all-night talks between negotiators from EU countries and the European Parliament, a deal was struck on Friday March 10 to cut final energy consumption across the EU by 11.7% by 2030. Energy consumed by end-users in the bloc such as households and industry should be 11.7% lower than expected use by the given year. The agreed reduction is, however, lower than the 13% target recommended by the European Commission last year to wean member countries off Russian fossil fuels dependency faster.
