Japan to maximise use of nuclear energy

In order to address global fuel shortages and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the Japanese government has adopted a plan to extend the operation of existing nuclear power reactors and replace aging power plants with new advanced ones. Under the new policy of Green Transformation, Japan will restart as many nuclear reactors as possible and prolong the operating life of aging ones beyond the current 60-year limit. The new policy describes nuclear power as "a power source that contributes to energy security and has a high decarbonisation effect".
