European Commission proposes emergency energy market intervention

In reaction to recent dramatic energy price rises, the European Commission has proposed an emergency market intervention. To ease the pressure on European households and businessses caused by the severe imbalance between energy demand and supply, the Commission has proposed exceptional electricity demand reduction measures and measures to redistribute the energy sector's surplus revenues to final customers. In the long term, reform of the electricity market design will be necessary.
