EDF Energy will shut down Hinkley Point B NPP

Hinkley Point B nuclear power plant started operations in 1976. In the NPP, there are two of the UK's several nuclear Advanced Gas-cooled Reactors (AGR). In November 2020, EDF announced it would start the plant defuelling phase no later than 15 July 2022. EDF has recently confirmed this deadline for the power plant decommissioning despite media reports that the UK government may request EDF to keep the plant running longer. EDF has looked in detail what a short extension would require and decided not to pursue it.
