Californian authorities willing to keep Diablo Canyon nuclear plant running

California has a goal of producing all of its electricity from clean sources by 2045. Since 2016, local authorities have been planning to replace Diablo Canyon's large generating capacity in the next ten years with other carbon-free energy sources like solar and wind in combination with battery storage. California has, however, faced many challenges in the transition from fossil fuels and nuclear. For example, there were severe blackouts during the summer heat wave in 2020.
