Qatar and Germany agree on an energy deal

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck visited Qatar where he secured an energy deal that will help Germany cut reliance on Russian gas. The Qatari emir pledged more support than Germany had expected. Qatar is one of the three largest exporters of liquified natural gas (LNG). The companies that went to Qatar with Minister Habeck will now enter into contract negotiations with their Qatari counterparts. Currently, there are no terminals to receive LNG in Germany. The country has announced plans to build two new LNG terminals, but they are unlikely to be ready before 2026. Habeck has said the energy deal also focuses on developing renewable energy projects and measures that promote energy efficiency.
