China wants to cool data centres with ocean water

The southern Chinese island province of Hainan has commenced work on an undersea commercial data centre, with completion expected in five years. China plans to move data centres housing powerful computers and servers to sea to cut the cost of cooling. Data centres store and process internet data. According to Greenpeace, power costs represent up to 70% of operation expenses of a data centre.
