The European Commission approves modified German support scheme for offshore wind energy

The European Commission has approved an updated German support scheme to further develop offshore wind energy generation. According to the Commission, the scheme complies with the EU State aid rules. The Commission approved the existing scheme as part of a 2017 State aid decision in case SA.45461. The Commission concluded that the new scheme will encourage the development of offshore wind energy and help Germany meet its medium- and long-term environmental goals without unduly distorting competition.
