Germany finalizing agreement on energy company payouts after nuclear shutdown

Chancellor Angela Merkel's government is ending years of litigation with energy companies over nuclear power plant shutdowns. It was agreed on Friday, 5 March to compensate them with around €2.4 billion for their losses. Germany decided to end nuclear power production following the Fukushima disaster that hit Japan in March 2011.
