Canada rejoins ITER fusion reactor project

Canada was an important member of the ITER Organization in the early years. However, in 2003, Canada ended its participation, because its proposal to build a fusion reactor in Clarington, Ontario was not accepted. In April 2018, Canada and the ITER Organisation signed an MoU to explore Canada's possible renewal of their participation in the ITER project. The ITER Organization would like to use Canada's expertise, especially in tritium-related technologies.
