Oil giants agree to cut their greenhouse gas emissions

A group of the world’s top oil companies, including Aramco, BP, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Shell, Total and China’s CNPC, have for the first time set goals to cut their greenhouse gas emissions. Altogether, the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) has 12 members, who together account for over 30% of the world’s oil and gas production. The OGCI members have agreed to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions per barrel of oil equivalent by approximately 10 percent by 2025. The target includes reductions in methane emissions, which is a potent greenhouse gas. BP, Shell and Total have individually set more ambition targets.
