Unit 5 at the Zaporozhe nuclear power plant loaded exclusively with Westinghouse fuel

In Ukraine, there are 15 nuclear units in commercial operation at four power plants (Khmelnitsky, Rovno, South Ukraine and Zaporozhe) which are all operated by the state-owned company Energoatom. Among the units, there are 13 VVER-1000 and two VVER-440 reactors with a total capacity of 13,835 MWe. In the past, Ukraine purchased nuclear services and fuel exclusively from Russia, but recently it has started to buy fuel from US-headquartered Westinghouse as well.
