Wind energy development stalls in Germany

According to the German government’s plan, renewable energy is supposed to account for at least 65 % in the country's energy mix by 2030. Wind energy is expected to play a major role. In recent years, legal actions against new wind energy projects have multiplied, leading to a dramatic decline in the number of new wind farms. Local pressure groups are suing because they claim some of the new projects are located too close to residential areas. Environmental groups have objections as well. Until a few years ago, licenses were granted in 10 months, but now the process takes over two years.
