2050 carbon neutral EU plan rejected by some member states

On 20 June, the leaders of France, Germany, the Netherlands and other states proposed 2050 as the target date for the EU to become carbon neutral at the summit in Brussels. The proposal, however, failed to get the unanimous support of all member states. Mainly Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Estonia opposed the move. Many eastern European countries rely heavily on coal, and without compensation from the West it would be hard for them to meet these goals.
