ČEZ to test Westinghouse fuel at Temelín

The ČEZ utility company will test fuel assemblies supplied by Westinghouse Electric Sweden in unit 1 of its Temelín nuclear power plant. In August last year, ČEZ announced a plan to diversify its fuel supply. Temelín unit 1 was shut down on 1 March for regular maintenance and refuelling outage, and is scheduled to be reconnected to the grid on 30 April. One hundred and sixty-three new fuel assemblies will be loaded during this outage, six of which will be from Westinghouse. During this outage, one third of the first unit’s fuel will be replaced. In the coming years, a combination of fuel from Westinghouse and TVEL will be tested.
