ABB has commissioned two digital substations southern Italy. Local wind farms will be integrated into the grid via substations in Tolve and Vaglio. The wind farms supply more than half of the electricity consumed in the region. Key components of the substations include ABB Ability based automation and control systems, intelligent protection equipment, transformers equipped with sensors, digitally controlled switchgears with remote signalization and advanced communication systems. ABB has also signed a 20-year service contract concerning the Vaglio substation, and provides 24/7 remote online monitoring.
