Poland has signed a 20-year LNG deal with an American gas company

Poland’s state gas company PNGiG has signed a deal with the American company Port Arthur LNG, which will supply 2.7 billion cubic metres of liquefied natural gas (LNG) a year to Poland over a 20-year period. The amount of gas represents approximately 15 percent of Poland’s gas consumption. Poland is trying to reduce its dependence on gas imports from Russia. Poland feels endangered by the growing dominance of Russia’s Gazprom which plans to supply gas directly to Germany via the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
