Third AP1000-type nuclear unit enters commercial operation

China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has announced that Unit 2 of the Sanmen nuclear power plant in Zhejiang province has completed 168 hours of full-power continuous operation. The unit represents the third AP1000-type unit to enter commercial operation. In 2007, Westinghouse and the Shaw Group received authorisation to construct four AP1000 units in China. Subsequently, construction began in Sanmen (Unit 1 in April 2009 and Unit 2 in December 2009), and in Haiyang (Unit 1 in September 2009 and Unit 2 in June 2010).
