The EU has banned halogen lightbulb production

From 1 September 2018, EU Member States can no longer produce or import halogen lightbulbs. Shops can, however, continue selling them from stock. The European Commission is trying to persuade Europeans to start using more efficient LED lightbulbs. The European Commission estimates the energy savings to reach 64 terawatt hours per year by 2020. That equals the annual electricity consumption of all Italian households. Approximately 500 million halogen bulbs are used in European households. Each of them consumes about six times as much energy as a LED bulb. Eventually, households should pay less for the electricity they consume.
