Škoda JS to supply reactor internals for the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant

Based on a contract signed with France's Framatome, the Czech company Škoda JS will manufacture and supply two sets of EPR reactor pressure vessel internals for the British Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant. Škoda JS will manufacture the core basket, heavy reflector and the upper internals.

The core basket is a welded and machined stainless steel structure weighing about 80 tonnes and holds the reactor core. The structure also directs coolant into the reactor core. The heavy neutron reflector will weigh about 100 tonnes. The main component of upper internals, weighing about 80 tonnes, consists of a structure with guide tubes for the control rods. Škoda JS has already supplied similar components to Framatome for nuclear power plants in Olkiluoto in Finland and Taishan 1 in China.
