The government of South Australia has, therefore, ordered a 100-megawatt lithium-ion battery from Tesla owned by American visionary Elon Musk. Elon Musk promised that his company will supply and commission the battery within 100 days from the signature of the contract. Tesla in cooperation with French company Neoen have managed to complete the project in approximately 60 days. Musk promised to give the battery to the government free of charge, if the project took longer than 100 days.
The roughly football pitch-sized battery, which is located near Jamestown approximately 200 kilometres north of Adelaide, South Australia’s capital, is more than three times larger than the next largest site in Mira Loma, California. It is unknown how much the government has paid for the battery.
