The Swiss have rejected a premature decommissioning of nuclear power plants

On 27 November, the Swiss rejected in a referendum a proposal of the Swiss Green Party, who wanted to limit the lifetime of local nuclear power plants to 45 years.

The Green Party actually wanted to close Mühleberg and Beznau NPPs in 2017, Gösgen NPP in 2024 and Leibstadt NPP in 2029. A majority (54.2%) of voters said “No” to the Green Party’s proposal. Approximately 45% of voters participated in the referendum.
