Road map for the renewable electricity trade between Europe and Northern Africa

On 17 November, Morocco, Germany, France, Spain and Portugal have signed in Morocco’s Marrakesh at the COP22 climate summit a roadmap for the trade with renewable electricity between the five signatory countries.

The roadmap aims to identify and overcome the renewable electricity trade barriers. The production of renewable electricity changes significantly with the weather, which causes problems with the transmission network control. The possible solution is a cross-border connection of neighbouring countries, which enables transmission of surplus energy to a country having a shortage of energy at the given moment.
