Approaching referendum on Swiss nuclear power plants future

After the Fukushima accident, the Swiss Federal Council has adopted the Energy Strategy 2050 initiative demanding a gradual nuclear phase-out. According to this initiative, the existing reactors can remain in operation until the end of their lifetime without replacing them with new ones. The initiative says the reactors can remain in operation as long as their operation is safe.
