German renewables surcharge will rise by about 8 percent next year

German national grid operators 50Hertz, Amprion, Tennet and TransnetBW have announced that the country's consumer surcharge to fund renewable electricity would rise by about 8 percent, from 6.35 to 6.88 eurocents per kilowatt-hour next year. When the surcharge was introduced 16 years ago, consumers only paid 0.16 eurocents per kilowatt-hour.
