Oettinger’s speech on EU-OPEC dialogue

On 24 June 2014, 11th Ministerial meeting of the European Union and the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) took place in Brussels. European Commissioner for Energy, Günther Oettinger, welcomed the participants and presented his speech.

The commissioner mentioned the long-term successful cooperation and said that the EU-OPEC dialogue has been one of the key priorities of EU international energy relations.

The last Ministerial meeting in November 2013 was only seven months ago, but a number of unexpected developments and challenges occurred since then. The commissioner mentioned mainly the new chapter in the relations between Ukraine and Russia. The main topic of the meeting was, therefore, energy security.
