Czech energy regulator will focus on compliance with the gas supply safety standard

On 2 September 2013, the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) published a press release, in which it notified all gas traders and manufacturers supplying gas to customers of their duty to comply with the gas supply safety standard (GSSS) within 1 October 2013, and to report data on the GSSS scope and its compliance to the market operator (MO) and the ERO.

According to the Energy Act, the Office is entitled to perform inspections and impose penalties for failure to comply with the obligations mentioned above regarding the GSSS. In cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the MO, the ERO will monitor the compliance. In case of incompliance, it can impose a fine of up to CZK 50 million or up to 1% of net sales in administrative proceedings.

In a letter addressed to all gas traders and manufacturers, the Office notified them of their obligations resulting from the applicable legislation and possible inspections. A failure to comply with the obligations regarding GSSS is an administrative offense, which is perceived as a serious one by the Office in terms of its impact on customers.
