German utility company E.ON suffered a financial loss in 2011 caused the forced shutdown of its nuclear power plants Isar 1 and Unterweser, and high gas prices. But this year, the power supplier has logged huge profits in the first half. This year’s earnings are also a result of a better long-term deal with Russia's Gazprom ensuring cheaper gas supplies. Last year, Gazprom increased gas prices and lost some of its clients, which provided E.ON with better negotiation conditions.
