ABB to construct a new factory making transformer components in Poland

ABB will invest approximately $30 million into a new factory in Poland, where they will produce components for power and distribution transformers. The new plant will be built alongside the existing plant manufacturing ABB transformers in Lodz. The new factory will be completed in mid-2013 and will employ approximately 140 people. Components of the new factory will be used in existing production plants in Lodz. These plants produce power transformers up to 300 MVA and 500 kV, and oil distribution transformers in sizes from 30 to 2,300 kVA. Both plants will serve the European market; power transformers are supplied to other regions as well.

ABB also has a center in Lodz, which supplies prefabricated installation kits and elements to other factories in Europe and helps them shorten production cycles and reduce costs. After completion of the new plant, the total number of ABB employees in Lodz will increase to about 1000. This project represents the third investment of ABB in Poland in recent years. ABB built factories manufacturing electric motors and power electronics close to Lodz.
